Artist Statement: Dr.Guevara, a pediatric consultant in Havana, insists that the two sides of her father-the revolutionary and the caring father-serve to make the complete man. Aleida Guevara is quoted as saying “I don’t want people to use my father’s face unthinkingly. I don’t like to see him stitched on the backside of a pair of mass-produced jeans. But look at the people who wear Che t-shirts. They tend to be those who don’t conform, who want more from society, who are wondering if they can be better human beings. That I think, he would have liked.”
“I really like your art, Thomas. Love to see your take on Che. Good luck in Melbourne. “Jim Fitzpatrick (Jim Fitzpatrick is the Irish Artist who did the very first screen-print of the Iconic image of Che that we now see printed on millions of t-shirts world-wide).
‘Che’s life is an inspiration for every human being who loves freedom. We will always honour his memory’ Nelson Mandela. ” In my painted and drawn studies of Che, I tried to see the man and not just the legend “Thomas Delohery.
